Education pricing and Premium Packs are available for most models. Contact us for current promotions.
Which Artec scanner is right for me?
The main deciding factors are object size, required accuracy, and whether you can use targets:
- Small parts, jewelry, dental: Micro II (desktop, automated)
- Small to medium objects: Spider II (target-free, up to 0.05 mm), Neo (up to 0.025 mm with targets, up to 0.05 mm without targets), or Point II (requires targets, up to 0.02 mm)
- Medium to large objects: Leo (wireless, target-free), Eva (tethered, target-free), or Point II (tethered, requires targets)
- Large objects, rooms, buildings, and sites: Ray II (tripod-mounted terrestrial) or Jet (mobile SLAM)
Other factors also matter, such as the resolution you need, the object's surface, wireless or tethered operation, and your application requirements. Contact us with a description of your parts and we will recommend the right scanner for your application.
What software do I need?
Most Artec scanners use Artec Studio for capture and processing. Artec Jet uses Artec Twins for large point cloud datasets. Scan data can be exported to Geomagic Design X, Geomagic Control X, PolyWorks Inspector, and SOLIDWORKS for reverse engineering and inspection.
Should I choose an Artec Studio subscription or a lifetime license?
Artec Studio Pro is available two ways (US list prices, October 2026):
- Subscription, $1,700 per year: always the latest version, with yearly feature and algorithm updates
- Lifetime, $4,300 one-time: permanent use of the version you buy (currently Artec Studio 20). Option to upgrade to future versions at additional cost.
A lifetime license costs about the same as two and a half years of subscription. The subscription suits users who want the newest features. The lifetime license suits users who prefer a one-time cost and are comfortable staying on one version. Premium Packs include a 5-year subscription, and education packages include a lifetime Artec Studio license with 2 years of free major upgrades.
Which Artec scanner is best for dimensional inspection?
For inspection and quality control, choose by part size and the accuracy you need:
- Small parts, up to 200 x 200 x 150 mm (7.9 x 7.9 x 5.9 in): Micro II (up to 0.005 mm)
- Small to medium parts: Spider II (target-free, up to 0.05 mm), Neo (up to 0.025 mm with targets, up to 0.05 mm without targets), or Point II (requires targets, up to 0.02 mm)
- Medium to large parts: Leo (target-free, up to 0.1 mm) or Point II (requires targets, up to 0.02 mm)
- Large parts and assemblies: add the Metrology Kit (photogrammetry) to hold accuracy over long distances
Artec Studio handles scan-to-CAD comparison and basic inspection. For in-depth inspection analysis and reporting, dedicated software such as Geomagic Control X or PolyWorks Inspector is used.
Which Artec scanner is best for reverse engineering and product design?
For scan-to-CAD work, choose by part size and how precise the critical features need to be:
- Small parts: Micro II (automated, up to 0.005 mm)
- Small to medium parts with fit-critical features: Spider II (target-free, up to 0.05 mm), Neo (up to 0.025 mm with targets, up to 0.05 mm without targets), or Point II (requires targets, up to 0.02 mm)
- Medium to large parts: Leo (wireless, target-free, up to 0.1 mm) or Eva (tethered, target-free, up to 0.1 mm)
Artec Studio includes scan-to-CAD tools such as fitting CAD primitives and auto-surfacing. For fully parametric CAD models, scans are typically processed in Geomagic Design X or Geomagic for SOLIDWORKS.
Which Artec scanner is best for scan-to-BIM and as-built documentation?
Choose by the size of the area and how you need to capture it:
- Rooms, equipment, and detailed areas: Leo (wireless, target-free, up to 0.1 mm)
- Buildings and large structures: Ray II (tripod-mounted terrestrial, 1.9 mm at 10 m)
- Sites, facilities, and long corridors: Jet (mobile SLAM, 5 mm with RTK, 10 mm without)
Data from different Artec scanners can be combined, for example Ray II or Jet for the overall site and Leo for detailed areas. Point clouds can be exported in E57, LAS, and other standard formats for use in BIM and CAD software.
What is included in an Artec Premium Pack?
Premium Packs bundle the scanner with a 5-year warranty, a 5-year Artec Care service contract, and a 5-year Artec Studio subscription. Some packs also include hardware accessories such as batteries, a turntable, or a calibration kit. Contents vary by model. Contact us for details.
Is there education pricing?
Yes. Artec offers education pricing for scanners used for teaching, training, and non-commercial research. Eligibility is based on how the scanner will be used rather than the type of organization, but it cannot be used for commercial work. Education packages include the scanner, a lifetime Artec Studio license, a 2-year warranty, 2 years of free major software upgrades, 2 years of Artec Care, and 2 years of access to selected Artec Academy courses. Contact us to check whether your project qualifies, or see our Artec education packages page.
Can I see a scanner before I buy?
Yes. A 3D scanner is a significant investment, so we work through the decision with you before you buy:
- Discovery call or email: we learn about your parts, accuracy requirements, and current workflow
- Live demo over Zoom: we show the scanner and software and walk through the full workflow, from scanning to final output
- Free test scan of your own parts: send us sample parts and we scan them, so you see real results on your parts, not just ours
- Free application case study: we prepare a case study based on your parts and application, which you can share with your team
- Package recommendation: we put together the scanner, software, and accessories that fit your application, budget, and IT requirements
There is no charge for any of these pre-sale services. Contact us to get started.
Do you offer on-site demos at our facility?
Yes. We usually start with an online demo to walk through the workflow and confirm the scanner is a good fit for your application. If questions remain that cannot be answered online, using our test parts or your own, we will work with you to coordinate an in-person demo at your site.
