Artec Eva is the world's best-known handheld 3D scanner — a fast, versatile structured-light scanner that captures medium to large objects in high resolution and full color. With accuracy up to 0.1 mm, 16 frames per second, and up to 18 million points captured per second, Eva makes a quick, textured, precise 3D model of anything from a human bust to an alloy wheel or a motorcycle exhaust.
Eva uses safe white structured light, needs no targets and no calibration — just point and shoot. That combination of speed, simplicity, and data quality has made it Artec's most popular scanner and a fixture across reverse engineering, healthcare and prosthetics, CGI and VR, forensics, heritage preservation, and education. Eva was even used to scan President Barack Obama for the first 3D-printed portrait of a US president.
Why Choose Artec Eva?
Fast, accurate capture
Up to 16 FPS and 18 million points per second, with 3D point accuracy up to 0.1 mm and resolution up to 0.2 mm.
Full-color scanning
1.3 MP texture capture in 24-bit color produces vivid, photorealistic 3D models ready for CGI, VR/AR, and archival work.
No targets, no calibration
Hybrid geometry and texture tracking locks onto the object itself. Plug in, point, and scan — like using a video camera.
Safe for people
White structured light is completely safe for scanning people and animals, which is why Eva is a standard tool in healthcare, prosthetics, and body scanning.
Truly portable
At 0.9 kg (2 lb), Eva pairs with a tablet and the Artec battery pack (up to 6 hours) to scan anywhere, with or without an outlet.
HD Mode
AI-powered HD Mode in Artec Studio delivers sharper, cleaner models at 2X the resolution of standard scans, and improves capture of black, shiny, and fine surfaces.
Structured-Light Scanning Done Right
Eva projects a structured light pattern from a flashbulb source and reads both the geometry and the color of the object at once. Collecting two data streams means better tracking on featureless or smooth surfaces, faster processing in Artec Studio, and no compromise between shape and texture quality. Targets can still be incorporated when a workflow calls for them, but they're never required.
| Metric | Performance |
|---|---|
| 3D point accuracy | Up to 0.1 mm |
| 3D resolution | Up to 0.2 mm (HD Mode) |
| Accuracy over distance | 0.1 mm + 0.3 mm/m |
| 3D reconstruction rate | Up to 16 FPS |
| Data acquisition speed | Up to 18 million points/sec |
| Texture resolution | 1.3 MP, 24 bpp color |
Built for Medium to Large Objects
With a working distance of 0.4 to 1 m (15.7" to 39.4") and a capture volume of 61,000 cm³ (about 3,700 cu in), Eva is sized for objects starting from around 10 cm (4 in) — car parts, furniture, people, machinery components, museum pieces. For larger subjects, keep scanning: Eva tracks continuously as you move around the object. It also pairs naturally with other Artec scanners — Spider II for intricate fine detail on the same model, or Leo and Ray II for bigger scenes — with all data merging in Artec Studio.
From Scan to CAD, Print, or Screen
Eva runs with Artec Studio, whose Autopilot mode guides new users through processing automatically while manual mode gives full control. Export watertight meshes to STL for 3D printing, OBJ or PLY for CGI and VR, or use scan-to-CAD tools to fit primitives and continue in SOLIDWORKS, Geomagic Design X, or Control X for inspection. Multiple Evas can also be bundled and synced for automated scanning systems using the free Artec Scanning SDK.
Applications
- Reverse engineering & prototyping — capture parts and assemblies for scan-to-CAD workflows in a fraction of the time of manual measurement.
- Healthcare & prosthetics — safely scan patients for custom prosthetics, orthotics, and pre-surgical models.
- CGI, VR & games — build full-color 3D assets and avatars ready for film, games, and AR/VR pipelines.
- Forensics — document evidence and injuries with accurate, textured 3D records.
- Heritage preservation — digitize artifacts and artworks non-invasively, in true color.
- Education — the most widely taught professional 3D scanner, with education package pricing available.
- Automotive & aerospace — capture panels, interiors, and components for design, tooling, and inspection.
