Metrology-grade accuracy where your tolerances are, fast full-color capture everywhere else. The Artec Neo is a hybrid, wireless handheld 3D scanner that does both in one scan and one dataset.
Stop choosing between accuracy and speed
Until now, precision scanning meant picking a side. A target-based laser scanner gave you certified accuracy, but only after covering the whole part in markers, and with no color. A structured-light scanner gave you speed, fine detail, and color, but not metrology-grade accuracy over distance.
The Artec Neo is built to end that trade-off. Place targets only on the features that carry tolerances, such as datums, fits, and interfaces, and scan everything else as-is. Neo switches between target tracking and target-free tracking automatically, mid-scan, and delivers a single complete model.
Artec's phrase for it is that metrology follows design intent, the same way GD&T does.
See the five ways to use targets →
Measure what matters. Capture everything.
Think of targets as a dial, not a requirement. Turn it all the way up for a first article, all the way down for a design model, or anywhere in between. Every setup ends in one complete dataset.
Metrology-grade accuracy everywhere
First article inspection, golden samples
Targets across the whole part keep every frame anchored, holding 0.025 mm + 0.035 mm/m (0.001 in + 0.0004 in/ft) volumetric accuracy over the entire surface.
Accuracy on the features that do a job
Reverse engineering, validation
Anchor the deck, bores, and interfaces. The rough casting around them is captured target-free, with full detail and color.
Inspect surfaces without covering them
Inspection, dimensional control
The fixture carries the accuracy framework, so critical surfaces stay clean and the next part needs no new targets. Deep channels are measured as-is and compared against CAD.
Relate distant features, skip the middle
Assembly, retrofitting, machine installation
A line of targets links far-apart features into one frame of reference. Get flange-to-flange distances, bolt-circle orientation, and mounting points over several meters without scanning everything in between.
Fast, accurate capture with zero prep
Design, prototyping, 3D modeling
Scan complete objects in minutes at up to 0.05 mm (0.002 in) accuracy and resolution. No target placement, no surface preparation, clean meshes ready for CAD.

Engineered for tolerance-driven work
What is inside the Neo, and why it matters on a real inspection or reverse engineering job.
Hybrid tracking, one dataset
Neo tracks geometry, texture, and targets together and switches automatically. No second scan, no alignment step afterward.
Two accuracy levels, your choice
0.025 mm (0.001 in) with targets, 0.025 mm + 0.035 mm/m (0.001 in + 0.0004 in/ft) over distance. 0.05 mm (0.002 in) without, 0.05 mm + 0.3 mm/m (0.002 in + 0.0036 in/ft).
Certified, unit by unit
Every Neo is calibrated and tested per VDI/VDE 2634 Part 3 in Artec's metrology lab, which operates according to ISO/IEC 17025 principles, using robot-driven trajectories and traceable reference objects. The certificate ships in the box.
Full color, fine detail
0.05 mm (0.002 in) mesh resolution plus a 5 MP, 24-bit texture camera record part numbers, casting marks, wear, and surface condition alongside the geometry.
Deep holes and tight spaces
Blue-light optics and a short 0.19 to 0.3 m (7.5 to 11.8 in) working distance reach channels, recesses, and passages where a target will never fit.
8 million points per second
High-resolution surfaces complete in seconds, with tracking that can start from any point and re-acquire quickly if you lose it.
About half the lead time of a laser scanner
In Artec's published comparison on the same part, Neo finished the scan in 13 minutes. A metrology-grade laser scanner took 34. Most of the saving comes from not having to cover the entire part in targets first.
Source: Artec 3D benchmark. Your results will depend on the part and the tolerance plan, which is a good reason to see Neo run on your own part.

Where cables can't go, Neo goes anyway
Built-in batteries and Wi-Fi mean no tether to trip over on a ladder, inside a machine, or under a vehicle. Scan on site, at height, and in confined spaces, then plug into Thunderbolt when you are back at the workstation.
Good to know: Neo streams to a Windows PC running Artec Studio. If you want an onboard computer and screen, see the Artec Leo.
From scan to inspection report in Artec Studio
Neo runs natively in Artec Studio, the same software used across Artec's handheld and desktop scanners. If your team already runs Artec hardware, there is nothing new to learn.
Inspect in the same session. Mesh-to-CAD and mesh-to-mesh deviation maps plus measurement tools turn a scan into a result without leaving the software.
Scan to CAD. Fit primitives, cut 2D sections for sketching, and auto-surface a mesh. Export STEP, IGES, or X_T.
Go further when you need to. Send data to Geomagic Design X, Geomagic Control X, SOLIDWORKS, or PolyWorks|Inspector for full reverse engineering and GD&T workflows. 3DMakerWorld carries the Geomagic and PolyWorks platforms.

Choose Neo
When one job needs certified accuracy on key features and fast, full-color capture of everything else, or when you need to scan untethered.
Choose Point II
When every surface must hold the tightest tolerance, parts are large, dark, or shiny, and targets everywhere are acceptable. Also lighter: 0.57 kg (1.3 lbs) vs. 1.3 kg (2.9 lbs).
Choose Spider II
When target-free, high-resolution color capture is the whole job and 0.05 mm accuracy is enough.

Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about the Artec Neo and buying from 3DMakerWorld.
What is the Artec Neo?
Artec Neo is a wireless, hybrid handheld 3D scanner with metrology-grade accuracy, built for inspection and reverse engineering. It combines target-based and target-free scanning in one device, so you can capture less critical areas quickly without targets and apply targets only where the highest accuracy is required.
What is hybrid 3D scanning?
Hybrid scanning means the scanner tracks by geometry and texture where no targets are present and switches automatically to target-based tracking where they are. You no longer choose between a fast, high-resolution scan and a metrology-grade one: context is captured target-free, and key features such as datums, seals, and alignment surfaces are anchored with targets, all in one continuous scan.
How accurate is the Artec Neo?
With targets, up to 0.025 mm (0.001 in), with volumetric accuracy of 0.025 mm + 0.035 mm/m (0.001 in + 0.0004 in/ft). Without targets, up to 0.05 mm (0.002 in), with volumetric accuracy of 0.05 mm + 0.3 mm/m (0.002 in + 0.0036 in/ft). The first figure in each pair describes accuracy on local detail. The second describes how error grows with distance across a whole object.
Do I always need targets with the Artec Neo?
No. Neo reconstructs surfaces using geometry and texture tracking and can scan with no targets at all at up to 0.05 mm accuracy. Add targets only where tolerances demand the higher 0.025 mm figure.
How is Neo's accuracy verified?
Every unit is individually calibrated and acceptance-tested per VDI/VDE 2634 Part 3 in Artec 3D's metrology laboratory, which operates according to ISO/IEC 17025 principles. Tests use robot-driven trajectories and internationally traceable reference objects to remove operator variability. Each scanner ships with its own accuracy certificate.
What targets does the Artec Neo use?
Retroreflective targets. Each Neo includes a set of Artec targets, and more can be purchased separately. Artec establishes and verifies the accuracy specifications using its own targets, so those are recommended for accuracy-critical work. Third-party retroreflective targets may work, but specified accuracy is not assured with them.
Is the Artec Neo fully wireless?
Yes. Built-in batteries and Wi-Fi let you scan untethered up to 6 m (19.7 ft) from a router, with 40 to 50 minutes of continuous scanning per battery set. Note that Neo still streams to a Windows computer running Artec Studio. If you need a scanner with an onboard computer and screen, look at the Artec Leo. Neo also has a Thunderbolt interface for wired scanning at a workstation.
What size parts can the Artec Neo scan?
From small, detail-dense components such as turbine blades up to jigs, fixtures, castings, and assemblies. With a target trail, Neo can relate features across structures several meters long, such as vehicle bodies and aircraft panels.
How does the Artec Neo compare to the Point II and Spider II?
Point II is a target-based laser scanner with slightly higher accuracy (0.02 mm), a larger field of view, and lower weight, but it always requires targets, captures no color, and is tethered. Spider II is target-free with 0.05 mm accuracy and full color, but it does not offer Neo's target-anchored 0.025 mm accuracy and is tethered. Neo covers both approaches in one wireless device.
What software does the Artec Neo use?
Artec Studio, the same software used across Artec's handheld and desktop scanners. It includes scan-to-CAD and inspection tools and exports to Geomagic Design X, Geomagic Control X, SOLIDWORKS, and PolyWorks|Inspector. Geomagic and PolyWorks software are available from 3DMakerWorld.
How much does the Artec Neo cost?
The Artec Neo's US list price is $38,600, set by Artec 3D, and it carries a 2-year warranty. As a Gold-Certified reseller we quote current promotions and education and research pricing. Request a quote through the form on this page or email sales@3dmakerworld.com.
